funny story -

a funny story-

i was explaining to beverly and jason why photographers use reflectors and how it masks shadows that don't usually provide the nicest appearance on peoples' faces, especially on a super sunny day where the sun's light is nothing but harsh. so i used jermaine (their youngest son) as an example. i carefully placed the reflector on the ground away from the camera's point of view moving it back and forth...

"see how the shadows just go away and provides a rounder form of light? see?" i said.

but while i was talking and moving the reflector back and forth to show the before and after, jermaine was having a difficult time giving us a straight face since the light was in his eyes. it was SOOO cute and FUNNY, i had to take a shot.

photo touch ups

i just wanted to share with everyone what goes into some photos. a number of images posted here are cleaned up to keep the quality as high as possible, meaning, erasing some stray hairs, removing some lint, and simple cropping to make the image more visually appealing and interesting. some, on the other hand are simply "touched-up" and bluntly edited.

most of my clients, friends and family don't mind and would PREFER that i help them lose a pound or two, even give back some years by removing wrinkles and CHINS, on a few images they really like. below are some examples of what's possible.

trina's quinceanera

i was digging through my files and thought this would be a nice addition to my blog. these images were taken a couple months back on july 15th (my birthday). yes, i went out and shot an event with carl on my birthday. this goes to say that i'm not a work-a-holic, i just LOVE photography that much.

i work hard and play hard, too. at least i'd like to think so. monica thinks i'm getting old, but who is she to say? she's only my wife. = )

after the quinceanera, my close group of friends and co-workers headed out to the great sushi house located in alameda. yes, i'm a HUGE fan of sushi. give me twix and sushi to make ed happy, just don't count on me eating both at the same time... ewww, gross (or is it?)

engagement - april and phil

April and Phil, despite their individual accomplishments and their serious occupations, are totally opposite type of people in person. A really warm, funny, and quirky couple they are which really made my job easy =) We had shot their e-session at Bay Street in Emeryville. They are gorgeous, fun, and very easy-going. It’s almost impossible to take a bad picture of them! So touching to see their expressions and emotions and for some reason, through my camera, i can totally feel it. They just can’t get enough of each other. It’s a natural high. Congrats to you, April and Phil!

engagement - neil and nette

these pictures below are of a couple monica and i recently shot. the weather was a tad cold for outdoor photos but they were soldiers! the intimate engagement session was held in a nearby beach in berkeley and the evening shoot followed at Bay Street shopping center located in Emeryville. Nette has this most genuinely radiant smile that affects everyone around her. They were so into each other and it was wonderful to witness their love in front of the camera.

photoshoot - meet cindy

first off, thank you cindy for being our model of the day. you did a great job.

carl, who is my "guru" in "studio lighting" built-up a sweet looking set for us to shoot in the middle of his living room. i'm going to try to remember to shoot the set so you see how much work (and equipment) is needed to get this type of photo.

normarie and chris

i took normarie and chris with my wife, monica (my very talented reflector girl) to a local park in vallejo called dan foley. this park is usually busy during the weekend, but we were lucky enough to beat the rush so we can take isolated photos without people in the background. i hope they continue to love and grow with each other so their future continues to be bright.

these images were taken on 2006.09.23
