Jasmin and Jerome's Wedding

commentator: monica

what a lovely wedding for a lovely couple... the day started out catching a few shots of jerome and his groomsmen before we headed to the union hotel in benicia, an historic hotel built in the 1800s and recently reopened within the last few years, where jasmin and her mom and bridesmaids prepped for the big day. jasmin was as calm as a cucumber and was looking gorgeous! her choice in hotel accommodations definitely complemented the reception venue to come after the ceremony.

then, off to st. vincent's ferrer parish we went to meet up with jerome and his guys. they were a fun bunch to be around and seemed to love being in front of the camera.

the admiral's mansion on mare island is one of the several mansions that line the main street, once used as housing for the naval officers and their families before the closing of the base. reminiscent of old plantation days and "gone with the wind," we were sure to take advantage of the architecture outside the mansion, as well as the decor inside. the reception was held outside in the garden dedicated to mare island's official gardener. what a beautiful location and such great weather for a wedding in august.

congratulations, jasmin & jerome! can't wait for your aftershoot next month. =)

megan and scott's engagement session

guest commentator: monica

their wedding is next year but since megan & scott are having a destination wedding at cabo, their "due date" for sending out their "save the dates" is quickly approaching! of course, they want to be able to include some beach photos for their wedding date notices. we originally set up to meet at the itty-bitty beach between berkeley and emeryville but unbeknowst to us, our chosen date/time was hiiiiiiiiigh tide! we opted for plan b instead and headed over the bridge to ocean beach.

through the drizzle, cold, and wind, this gorgeous couple grinned and beared it as they "frolicked" in the water and across the beach, as if on a hot summer day. "think warm," is what megan kept saying. i say "frolick" since scott was a little opposed to doing so prior to the shoot, though thankfully, he was convinced to do so by his lovely fiance. we think deep down he enjoyed it, as we caught a lot of laughter and smiles from the two of them doing so. =)

congratulations on your engagement, megan & scott! have a wonderful & warm trip down to mexico this month!

melissa and ed's engagement session

guest commentator: monica

melissa and ed really wanted to have a waterfall setting for their e-session. we had heard of a waterfall somewhere in golden gate park though had never seen it personally and rumor had it that it was either shut down at one point or was turned on sporadically. we began to think it was some kind of myth...

with some research and fortunately, seeing images on another photog's blog, we were able to discover the waterfall at stow lake. never having laid eyes on the lake, it was a wonder how to get to the waterfall, much less pose around it. thanks to melissa and ed, they found a trail to get to the falls and were willing to trek up the boulders to get some awesome shots, in heels, no less... that is, melissa, not ed. =) stow lake has such great photo opps. that we could have stayed there all day!

afterwards, we drove just minutes away to our next site within the park, in front of the de young museum for some pictures of palm trees, as a way to tie in their tropical wedding theme. here, we played around with the palm leaves to get some cool layered shots.

congratulations on your engagement, melissa & ed! we know your wedding next month will be as awesome and beautiful as the two of you!

glenda, lacha, alanah, & evan - a family session

guest commentator: monica

this beautiful quartet met up with us this weekend at the emeryville/berkeley border for a family session. as it was kite fest weekend, we were really lucky to have gotten some great parking in the area. though the wind was great for kites, the sun was hiding a bit during our morning session, which is very different for these sacramento natives. fortunately, the family was more than willing to play around at the beach and sculpture area. check out all four of these cuties!
